A priest, a rabbi, and an imam walk into a comedy club

Have the winter blues? Seems like the world is upside down lately? Do ya just need a good laugh? We feel you. This time of year is always tough, and this year seems a little tougher, which is why you need to kick those endorphins into overdrive and run, don’t walk, to the nearest comedy club. Comedy clubs are where all of your favorite comedians hone their craft and you never know who might stop in. Just last week, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, Aziz Ansari, and Dave Chappelle all crashed the same show at the same New York club on the same night! If you’re feeling blue, or off your game, or for whatever ails you, laughter is the best medicine. Well, except for a VD; penicillin is probably the best medicine for a VD, but you know what we mean. Seriously, good luck with your VD. But go to a comedy club anyway.

Sing Us A Song, You’re the Piano Man

If you’re a real estate novelist, in the Navy, a waitress practicing politics, or a businessman slowly getting stoned, you probably know that feeling you get when you’re in a bar and your song comes on – it makes you want to just start belting it out as loud as you can, right? Well if you’re at a piano bar, that’s not only acceptable, it’s expected! Whether you want to channel your inner Billy Joel and sing along to classics, hear a bunch of professional singers sing your favorite show tunes, or just enjoy being around happy people singing and having fun, a piano bar is for you. And while most people will be happy to take your requests, try to be more specific than “Son, can you play me a memory?”

Cold Nights, Hot Sake

Sushi. Karaoke. Second dates. “What are three things that go well with sake,” Alex? No longer just for 14th century Japanese warlords, sake bars and izakaya are popping up all over the place. Usually offering cool vibes, tasty small plates, and a speakeasy-esque mystique to the uninitiated, the one thing they all have in common is sake – the brewed rice wine with as many styles, looks, and complexities as David Bowie. Drink it hot, drink it cold, drink it as a shot dropped into a beer, but trust us, you want to get into some sake. Whether you’re looking for a unique date spot, a fun place to grab a bite and a couple cold ones, or just a chance to get loose with some friendly local Japanese businessmen, you simply can’t go wrong with a sake bar. Check out this week’s trending sake bars/izakaya near you.

Shirley You Can’t Be Serious…

For professional drinkers like us, ordering a cocktail seems pretty straightforward. But then we traveled to the West Village in New York City and caught up with mixologist Jim Kearns from Slowly Shirley, and we found out some of us might just be doing it wrong. Slowly Shirley is an elegant subterranean cocktail sanctuary run by owners Jon Neidich and Jim Kearns, located below the duo’s jovial restaurant and bar, The Happiest Hour. With Art Deco décor, old-school hotel service and a seriously strong cocktail game, Slowly Shirley transports guests to Hollywood’s Golden Age when glamor and sophistication ruled the day.
